Another thoughtful and perceptive piece, Jim. I've written much about rain and you are right how much we needed about 2 inches of it. I tired of hauling the bucket around watering pots and plants. Rain comes in all sizes: dribble, droplet, and downpour. All welcome when it's dry. And lakes, yes, I grew up near Lake Winnebago. I can't say how much I loved being near the lake and its bays.
